Reaction roundup to my earlier post about Web 2.0

Here are some reactions to my earlier posts on how Web 2.0 technologies apply (or don’t apply) to nonprofits. Here’s a few links:

She makes an interesting point that Web 2.0 posts on a blog drive a lot of traffic and a lot of clickthrough. That has occurred here at Confessions as well. Traffic has gone up even as I post things I don’t like about Web 2.0. However, I still get more hits when I post about Blackbaud so I think everyone’s traffic is going to vary depending on their existing audience. However, I’m seeing 25% growth every month in unique visitors for the last three months so I’m not sure if it’s related to anything but my increased frequency in posting. (Our bandwidth usage TODAY is greater than our bandwidth usage for the whole month of October! WOOT WOOT!)

A fairly positive take on my comments.

She was very kind in her response and has come up with idea of a “technology steward” to describe my particular outlook on IT in general. However, I believe that many of my attitudes can also be found in numerous books on System Administration especially that book by Limoncelli and Hogan.

Michele Martin

Michele Martin admits that it’s hard to find examples of Web 2.0 that help clients or staff of nonprofits. I think she still wants us to try out the tool — I agree as well. It’s just that making “play” an essential part of work is hard for your average nonprofit staff.

Thanks all for your reactions!
