OSS CMS Jobs Report

Job Trends Graph for Open Source CMSes
As another in the ongoing series on OSS CMS technologies, I’m posting a graph I created at indeed that contains the frequency of job listings that list a particular OSS CMS. I chose Plone, Drupal, Joomla, Typo3 and CiviCRM as technologies to track. It’s almost impossible to track mambo developers this way because mambo jobs may be also for mambo instructors so I left only Joomla! developers in the graph.

I don’t know how exactly to interpret these results. Much of it seems cyclical or tied to particular directives. What is interesting to me once again, is the high rate of adoption for Joomla. The technology didn’t exist as a separate development fork from Mambo until August of 2005. Within 45 days, the first hires for Joomla developers started. And within 90 days, hire rates were at typo3 and drupal levels. Plone developers were definitely in demand for most of last year. Is this an indication of Plone’s large installed base or are people feeling it necessary to bring Plone talent in-house?
