Kintera’s CEO Steps Down!

Kintera

So Kintera’s saga adds yet another chapter and this time Harry Gruber has become the ex-CEO of Kintera.

March 5 (Reuters) – Kintera Inc. (KNTA.O: Quote, Profile , Research) said its Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder Harry Gruber resigned and was being replaced by Richard LaBarbera, effective immediately.

LaBarbera has been chief operating officer since February, 2006 and president of the company since February, 2007, the company that provides software to non-profits said.

Anyone care to comment? I think they should be entering the Non-Profit Tech Blog Deadpool fairly soon…but I could be wrong. There’s a possibility that they’ll try to pull out all the stops, adopt an open API, become the heart of every nonprofit’s web marketing efforts, etc. It could just… nahhh!

I think they’re going out and I’m about at the point where I’m hoping for it. Having used Kintera for a few months now, I can say from experience that they don’t have a quality product, they don’t have good customer service.

What I find really strange is that the new CEO is from within. Seems like if they were really trying for a change, they would have recruited someone from the outside the company.

Their stock is up to $1.70 after spending most of January and February around $1.25, a 26% increase…. if that means anything.

I don’t think so. Watch for their Q4 results from 2006 (announced on March 29, 2007). If they come close to break even, they will be set to make a profit in 2007 for the first time in their 7 year history. If that happens, their stock may begin to recover. Also note that LaBarbara is a recent hire and the person many are crediting for their turnaround. They are still acquiring clients hand over fist and if they can continue to control costs they may be a serious contender. You heard it here first.

I’m totally awed by even the remote possibility that Kintera could pull it out. Matt, I promise to revisit the issue when 3/29 rolls around.

Yes I know about that — it’s on the npdigg.org site. I posted it up there. I really recommend that you guys go up there. I put stories in there that I don’t talk about on the blog and so does Beth Kanter.

If that’s not enough — tell your grants people to check it out. We have what few grants RSS feeds exist plus anything I can dig up myself.
