Imified – new service that exploits open APIs

imified

I’ve just been lucky enough to be tipped off by Beth Kanter to Tim Lauer’s post about a new service called Imified. At first I misunderstood it as some sort of Meebo replacement but instead it’s an extension of the MLB or Moviefone bots that AOL has. However, this service plugs into existing APIs on more open systems like Basecamp, WordPress and more importantly, in the near future, salesforce.com. Yes, soon you’ll be able to use your mobile chat client to access salesforce.com screens. It’ll probably be the most rudimentary of screens but I’m guessing that entering contact information would be the thing you’d want to do with it.

It’s very simple to try out and worth playing around with as this is a more important service to IT Directors looking for a way to stretch the umbrella of provided services over more clients. It’s a darn shame the API isn’t open so that people could write their own imified links to different services.

I’ll be watching this service more closely in the future as I believe Imified may be an important way to provide low-bandwidth services to remote locations by serving as a proxy for higher-bandwidth services such as salesforce.com or Google Calendar.
