Ok, Non-Profit Tech Blog’s vast and mighty empire of employees (uh, just me) is officially endorsing Barack Obama. If you’re in any of the states that are voting tomorrow, please vote for Obama. For you techies out there, please see his position paper on technology. It’s not as detailed as Hillary Clinton’s on specifics and timelines but he actually has positions on wireless spectrum and net neutrality and Clinton does not mention hers.

I don’t usually mention politics here and greatly discourage it when talking about specific ways to do technology. However, in the long run, tech is affected by policy decisions so that’s why I’m pro-net neutrality and for opening up wireless spectrum. And I believe he’s fundamentally committed to a more transparent and open democracy which is something I’ve been trying to do in my own little way on this blog. He wants to do health care negotiations under the watchful eye of C-Span — that’s a great idea and I hope he gets to carry it out. Transparency and democracy should always be the abiding values behind our use of technology in the non-profit sector and I think Obama’s focus not on policy (which always changes) but on the values behind them are more important right now.

I have many other non-tech reasons to support Obama but I won’t bore you with them. Let’s just say that he has inspired me more than anyone running for the Presidency in my lifetime.
