Whereas I have absolutely no shame tossing Blackbaud Infinity around as a term, others do. Check out this quick link to the Non-Profit Eye. It gives even more hints about the Infinity platform (unintentionally) although the author is trying to hide the identity of the product she is discussing. It’s clearly Infinity though.
Pam Ashlund was actually at the conference that was the source of the Blackbaud SMACKDOWN! article I wrote about on 10/26. She scooped me by a day!
The trainer covered the “slices†and the “bladesâ€. Said the “platform†wouldn’t “bulk-load the database“; that it “lives†with†Linux applications. The trainer apologized that he would have to to “drive thru†the training (meaning run the slide-projector when he talks). He told us that application really “morphs†into something (I forget what). He told us that if we were a “heads-down” data entry person, we might be working in editing mode) and they wouldn’t have to worry about record locking). He told us that they were going to “run” with this…
Ok ok, us tech types DO talk that way. However, I’d like to point out that this is more like tech marketing talk not true geek speak. Real geeks talk in carrier.
Some things to note:
- How does Blackbaud live with Linux apps?
- And how is the Blackbaud client stateless? I wonder what that really meant…
- It also looks like Infinity is designed for mashups…

Whoo Hooo, I’ve never had a scoop before! But seriously, point taken re: “marketing talk” vs “geek speak”..that DOES explain my reaction. Marketing…grrrr.
I am enjoying your coverage of the unfolding of “Infinity”.

BB has made no apolgies for stating they are heading towards a Micorsoft platform. Lots of .NET and other cool toys are being rolled into Infinity. One could argue taht as long as you have the proper .NET framework on your Linux machine, it should work???
Infinity does work well with mashups. They are very sexy actually. I’ve seen a couple demoed. That is a result of the reliance of web-services/XML as a communications standard.
I’m a past Microsoft developer myself and still have Visual Studio loaded on all my machines so I’m ready willing and able. I don’t know yet if I’m willing to do a Blackbaud Linux Frankenstein installation but it would be hillarious if that worked… hehe… Can’t wait to see the first Infinity mashups myself!
